Clean Eats- Turtle Treats

When we began cutting processed sugar out of our diet we noticed that everything started to taste grossly sweet. I still wanted ways to satisfy my sweet tooth so I took to the internet to start finding alternative recipes. Turtle candies have always been a favorite of mine, I love anything caramel and chocolate! So when these claimed to be a close replica I jumped on the chance to try them out. I've modified it a bit, to be even lower in sugar and this is what I've got!

3 simple ingredients: Pitted dates, Chopped pecans, and Chocolate chips. I use Lily's dark chocolate chips because they have no added sugar and are sweetened with stevia making them a "zero sugar" food.

Start by placing 1 cup of dates in your food processor or chopper and blending them until they start to form a ball (1-2 minutes). When it forms a large ball remove from the food processor roll them into small balls, about the size of a nickel, then place on parchment paper.

This part gets a little sticky :) Pour some pecans out on a small plate and press each ball into the pecans so a few stick to the ball as it's flattened. Then place it back on the parchment paper and repeat with all of them.

Melt 1/2 cup chocolate chips and spoon the chocolate over the top of each turtle. Place in the fridge to harden and that's it! These can be stored in the fridge but don't have to be.

I know it's hard to believe that these would taste like candy turtles but they are dang close! My family and I absolutely love this healthier guilt free treat and no one will be the wiser that they're actually not terrible for them ;)

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you get a chance to enjoy these lil treats. Any step towards removing processed sugar from your diet is a step in the right direction! Enjoy
